Equipping businesses to scale with confidence.

For more than 15 years, Equip Law has supported businesses through growth, change and opportunity. Over that time, we have seen first-hand how legal support becomes increasingly important as businesses scale, from governance and compliance to commercial contracts, employment matters, regulatory requirements and investment readiness.

As the needs of businesses evolved, so did our approach.

We recognised that growing businesses need more than occasional legal advice. They need access to a legal function that understands their objectives, supports decision-making and helps them prepare for future opportunities. That is why we developed our embedded in-house counsel model.

Today, we work as an extension of the businesses we support, combining strategic legal counsel, legal operations and technology-enabled processes to deliver practical, commercially focused support. Our expertise spans commercial contracts, corporate governance, employment, intellectual property, compliance and data protection, fundraising and venture capital, and financial services and fintech regulation.

Bringing together more than 30 years’ combined experience across commercial, corporate, employment, intellectual property, compliance and financial services matters, our team helps businesses strengthen governance, protect value, navigate risk and position themselves for sustainable growth.

Our goal is simple: to equip businesses with the legal insight, operational support and strategic guidance they need to scale with confidence.

Meet the team.

Esther Godwins

Esther Godwins

CEO & Founder

After more than fifteen years working with businesses and start-ups, Esther saw the same gap repeatedly. Scaling companies need strategic legal support but are not yet ready to hire in-house counsel. The unpredictability of traditional law firm fees makes ongoing support difficult, and arm's-length advice rarely keeps pace with growing businesses.

She founded Equip Law to bridge that gap, providing an embedded, in-house style legal team on a fixed monthly fee. Her practice spans commercial contracts, corporate governance, IP, employment law and Tribunal advocacy. Esther is dual qualified as a Solicitor of England and Wales and an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New York.

Esther has built a reputation for the quality of her work and commercially focused legal advice, helping clients navigate matters with clarity, strategy and a practical understanding of business realities.

Outside Equip Law, Esther loves volunteering and serves on the board of several charities. She is an amateur script writer and a keen enthusiast of trees, holding membership with the International Dendrology Society.
